The Art of Anointing
Since the beginning of time, across many cultures and continents, humans have used plants, flowers and fragrances to open portals and connect with the divine realms.
An anointing oil is a blend of a specific plant material and a carrier oil created in divine transmission for the purpose of connecting to a higher consciousness. Each anointing oil carries it’s own unique vibrational signature and healing properties depending on the ceremonial intentions and the physical and energetic properties of the plants used.
The art of anointing is a ritualistic practise that dates back thousands of years, originating in ancient Egyptian times. Myrrophores, or Myrrh-Bearers were sacred initiated priestesses who would channel the celestial power of the divine through these sacred oils and anoint as a way of offering powerful healing, protection and consecration in ceremony and ritual.
The priestesses of Isis were powerful healers and alchemists, working in harmonious union with the powers of nature as to harness the magic of the earth as well as the divinity of the cosmos. They would ceremonially anoint Pharaohs into their new roles as Queens and Kings, to bring forth births and to bring forth the spirit into the afterlife. They were truly honoured and revered as wisdom keepers and are depicted anointing and using oils on the Egyptian temples walls.
These anointing traditions of Egypt spread and grew throughout the Middle East, Greece and other parts of Europe, where they were influenced by expanding trade routes and ever changing cultures, and are still practiced today in religious ceremonies and monarchical coronations. One of the most well-known acts of anointing in the West is from the Christian Biblical Scriptures that read of Mary Magdalene anointing Yahshua’s feet with the oil of nard (spikenard).
Anointing is a sacred practice that is being reclaimed for is potency as a tool for deepening our spiritual experience and devotion.
Blessed, blessed anointing my loves.
